Denmark Day 10

Another trip was at an end; the longest trip that Carmen and myself had been on together. It was also the longest period of time we’ve spent in each other’s company so far as well. I got up at 08:00, and after breakfast I got ready for my long run. I’d come up with alternate routes depending on what distance I felt capable of today. Carmen decided she’d join me, so we used the ten mile route and …

Denmark Day 9

We knew we’d be doing a parkrun in a Scandinavian country today, but we didn’t know which parkrun. We’d previously been looking at Amager Strandpark and Amager Fælledpark, with my preference being the first of those two as it’d be closer, and I’ve heard good things about that one too. When we started to discuss when would be best to visit Malmö, if we decided we’d got time to, I suggested that Sat …

Denmark Day 8

The most important thing today was getting to the train station in Vejle for the 11:01 train to Copenhagen. With the bus out of Billund leaving every thirty minutes, and the closest one arriving nine minutes before the train is scheduled to leave, we really needed to catch the bus before that one just in case it was running late. We left out around 09:30, put the key back in the lockbox, and star …

Denmark Day 7

We were up early so we could run a few miles before breakfast. I’d planned a rough route that would take us past Legoland and the LEGO Castle Hotel. Amazingly that hotel actually does look like a castle, made from LEGO. With Billund being so small though, I'd planned a bit of a spiral route to avoid doing laps, but after passing Legoland we remembered the idea of running in a brick shape, so heade …

Denmark Day 6

The focus for today was getting from Copenhagen to Billund, to see the home of the world famous LEGO bricks. This meant we could have a later start today, and still have enough time for everything we need to do. We finished packing, had breakfast, and then tidied the apartment ready for checkout. We headed to Østerport, dragging the suitcases over cobblestones hopefully for the last time. From th …

Denmark Day 5

We started today off with a short run to keep our legs ticking over ready for parkrun next weekend. The route I planned took us around the outside of Kastellet, and through the courtyard of the Amalienborg Palace to Nyhavn, and then looped back, this time running along the other side of Kastellet to make it a little over 5K. I would have like to have run around Christiania Freetown a little, but f …

Denmark Day 3

My fastest half marathon this year, so far, was at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London. It wasn’t the flattest of courses, but it was the closest I’ve been to a sub-90 time for a while. It really has been one thing after another since the start of the pandemic back in 2020, and my race times have been severely impacted as a result. Now I’m in my 40s I realise it’s going to be more difficult …

Denmark

Myself and Carmen were off on the start of another adventure - this time to Denmark for the Copenhagen Half, and to see the birthplace of everyone's favourite toy brick.

I didn't expect to be going back to Cyprus for a third time; though the timing of the marathon there, and knowing the conditions for it there would be warmer than in the UK made it a good choice. Carm…

Cyprus
My first trip to Cyprus had been for a half marathon race that never took place. It'd been postponed until 2022, but due to timings I decided to defer until the 2023 event as it'd work better that way…

Another week, another half marathon. Could I edge closer to being a sub-90 runner again, and beat Copenhagen and Cardiff? I certainly wasn't sure, but I was going to give it a go.…
