My adventure in Mexico was over, but my adventure in Canada was only just beginning. It was almost a shame I'd have to work remotely for some of it.

To make change from spending a lot of time underwater, we instead spent the day on the water, snorkelling. It was a chance to see some sea life, albeit at a bit of a rushed pace, even though we were told it'd be an easy day with no rushing around.

Dodgy scuba equipment and dodgy ears didn't stop me from getting in another day of diving. The rest of the day was relaxing, and deciding what to do tomorrow for the final day.

This was the first of two days of diving in caves. It wasn't the most comfortable experience even though I enjoyed it, and it was uncertain whether I could do another day.

Along the way to Playa del Carmen we stopped by the cenote Ik Kil, and spent some time looking around the world famous ruins of Chichen Itza, and the visually stunning El Castillo.

The plan was to go to Uxmal for a tour, but things didn't exactly go to plan. At one point we weren't sure whether we'd actually get there.

When a 'day long' tour turns out to be an hour, you have to find other ways to fill your day. It was lucky the hotel had a pool, but there was only so much time I could spend there. It was a shame it was too warm to run.

Early starts are never pleasant, but sometimes, needs must. There was a fair but to see in the morning and most of the afternoon would be free to explore. It was one of those days where it would have been nice to have more control over the itinerary.

Today we would be looking around two different villages inhabited by the Tzotzil indigenous Mayans. They had their own laws, but their architecture was still very colonial Spanish.

We flew from Mexico City to a place near the Sumidero Canyon to take a boat along that, and then drove on to our overnight stay in San Cristobal de las Casas.

One of the sights I really wanted to see in Mexico was Teotihuacán, and as luck was have it, it was one of the first sights I'd get to see.

Our first day in Mexico was spent seeing the sights of Mexico City, and trying out the local restaurants. It was quite a relaxed day, but actually saw a lot.

For my trip to Mexico I was travelling via Toronto as I'd be spending a week there at the end of this trip so in terms of flight costs it made sense to get a return to Toronto, and then the Mexico flights on top of that.

The history of South America has interested me for a long time. With TV shows such as The Mysterious Cities of Gold covering pre-Columbian civilisation in the Americas it was something which seemed fascinating.
