It had been a near sleepless night once again when the lights came on at 05:00 for the breakfast service. I wasn’t quite as tired as I’d expected, after having managed to get around four hours spread out across the night. Hopefully it would be enough for the drive home later.
The aircraft landed at Heathrow at 06:50 in the morning, and it took me very little time to get to the baggage collection hall from the aircraft, having gotten through immigration quickly. I checked Uber, as I’d pre-booked a ride. It told me the pick-up location was a fifteen minute walk away, and that the driver would only be waiting until 07:36. I’m not sure how they expect people to deplane, clear immigration, go through baggage collection and get there in 36 minutes. It was ridiculous!
I got to chat with some of the Impact group one last time whilst waiting for my luggage to arrive, and then quickly made my way to the Uber pick-up point. I’d communicated with the driver all this time to make sure he knew I was on my way. I got there with a minute to spare. I realised that the driver had selected Signature Aviation LHR as the pick-up point, and not the place I requested. When I queried why the pick-up point was outside the airport, he cancelled my ride. Fortunately another driver accepted the request and was only two minutes away, picking me up from the correct location in the airport.
Rain was making the traffic quite bad, so it took around forty minutes to get to South Ruislip, once there I could then continue on the journey by driving home for a further two hours to Leicester.
It’d been quite a trip, with long journeys, but a lot of fun, but now I was back home it was over.
